A Midnight Prayer 8

I beseech Thee, O Father of mercies, and God of all consolation,
to support me in the perpetual combats I am summoned
to maintain against my passions,
my self love,
and my whole self,
which is so opposed to Thee;
for alas! O God,
what can I do of myself if Thou support me not,
but fall into sin and offend Thee?
Leave me not, therefore, to myself,
but strengthen me in the inward man,
that so I may at all times and in all things
renounce my evil inclinations,
which are incessantly endeavoring
to withdraw my heart from Thee.
Complete Thy conquest,
and make me all Thine own both now and forever.
Amen.
